Red Hibiscus - aka China rose (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L.)

Today's blog post is all about the gorgeous Hibiscus. I hope you enjoy it!

The Hibiscus is such a beautiful, exotic and tropical flower, plus it's edible. Research suggests that drinking

Hibiscus tea (particularly Hibiscus sabdariffa L. and rosa-sinensis L. [Red Hibiscus]) could have therapeutic benefits for cardiovascular wellbeing. This is partly because Hibiscus is packed with antioxidants and nutrients.

If you'd like to know more about the many other health benefits of Hibiscus tea, check this blog out.

There is a great Hibiscus tea recipe to try, too!

The name Hibiscus comes from the Greek word Hibiskos (meaning mallow). Mallow is the family Hibiscus belongs to.

There are somewhere between 200-300 described species of Hibiscus found throughout the world and

about 40 native species in Australia. Wow!

A popular species grown in Australia is the rosa-sinensis L.

As you can see from the photos I've posted on this blog, the Hibiscus comes in some truly gorgeous colours!

They can be grown using seeds or stem cuttings and usually require about 6-8 hours of sunlight each day.

Why not plant a Hibiscus today and watch it bloom!! 🌱😊

Here is an interesting research article about Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. to read.

Now for a bit of trivia (that I found whilst researching the Hibiscus).

Apparently, "Hibiscus" means "plant that is consecrated to the ibis". The ibis is a bird that

is sacred in Ancient Egypt and is associated with the God Thoth, who represented the moon and wisdom.

Speaking of ibises, I will soon post a blog about these magnificent birds on my channel,

"Birds of Paradise"! As always, stay tuned! 🙏

I hope you take a moment to infuse some 🌸🌸 Flower Power 🌸🌸 into your day today!!
